Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of the District Administrator (DA), Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) in the Specialized Services Command (Office), part of the Field Operations Branch (Branch) in the Law Enforcement Division (Division) within the Department of Cannabis Control (Department), the Information Technology Specialist (ITS) I will perform forensic examinations of digital devices and provide advanced technical expertise to support and advise the branch on information relating to seizures and forensic examinations of digital devices. This position operates with a high level of independence and is responsible for ensuring the reliable performance, security, and integrity of these mission critical forensic environments, which encompass a diverse range of technologies, software platforms, and vendor solutions. The position spans multiple technical domains, including systems engineering, information security engineering, and software engineering.

Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI). - Title 11, section 703 (d) of the California Code of Regulations requires criminal record checks of all personnel who have access to CORI. Pursuant to this requirement, applicants for this position will be required to submit fingerprints to the Department of Justice and be cleared before hiring. In accordance with DCA’s CORI procedures, clearance shall be maintained while employed in a CORI-designated position. Additionally, the position routinely works with sensitive and confidential issues and/or materials and is expected to maintain the privacy and confidentiality of documents and topics pertaining to individuals or to sensitive program matters at all times.

Travel - The incumbent is required to travel throughout the state by various methods of transportation.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

Experience with programming languages such as: Python, PowerShell, or Java.

Experience performing computer hardware maintenance.

Understanding of computer systems, networks, operating systems, and mobile platforms.

Knowledge of forensic science principles, criminal law related to electronic evidence, and rules of evidence.
